Can the Jews Trust Obama? Yes, and Thomas Friedman in this NY Times article agrees with me. I'm really sick of these rumors floating around about Obama being vehemently anti-Israel. Last week it became very much clear that Obama stands against negotiating with terrorists, a comment instigated by Bush's speech to the Knesset on Yom Haatzmaut. Bush's comment was as follows:
"Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: "Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided." We have an obligation to call this what it is – the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history. Some people suggest that if the United States would just break ties with Israel, all our problems in the Middle East would go away."
Chill out, everyone, news media included. Our country is beyond the point of choice on whether or not to support Israel. America has to support Israel - it's like a bra in which America is the underwire and Israel is the lace (because Israel has more fun). America needs Israel as their ally and has devoted 50 years to ensuring Israel's existence. I actually think a lot of the Jewish community's feelings against Obama stem from pent up racism, shock of shocks. I've heard a good amount of stories of grandparents saying they would never "vote for that schvartser!" (I won't name names. That is the word, right? Schvartser?)
I'm just frustrated with all of this. Jews: open your eyes. Hilary is probably going to lose against Obama, and then what? McCain? He's old. and fat. And ultimately he's a bushie. We don't need that again. If you voted for Bush once or twice, it's okay - god forgave you on Yom Kippurs past... Just learn from your mistakes and vote Democrat this time.
That was harsh. My bad. You catch my drift, American Jews? You feel me here?
