Can the Jews Trust Obama?

I'm not in the mood to talk about porn today, even though I promised it in my last entry. It'll come. Believe me, it will come.

Can the Jews Trust Obama? Yes, and Thomas Friedman in this NY Times article agrees with me. I'm really sick of these rumors floating around about Obama being vehemently anti-Israel. Last week it became very much clear that Obama stands against negotiating with terrorists, a comment instigated by Bush's speech to the Knesset on Yom Haatzmaut. Bush's comment was as follows:

"Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: "Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided." We have an obligation to call this what it is – the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history. Some people suggest that if the United States would just break ties with Israel, all our problems in the Middle East would go away."

Bush is a fearmonger who used the Knesset on Israel's very special day as a platform against Obama... at least, that is what the media made of it, despite the fact that Obama's name was not mentioned even once.

Chill out, everyone, news media included. Our country is beyond the point of choice on whether or not to support Israel. America has to support Israel - it's like a bra in which America is the underwire and Israel is the lace (because Israel has more fun). America needs Israel as their ally and has devoted 50 years to ensuring Israel's existence. I actually think a lot of the Jewish community's feelings against Obama stem from pent up racism, shock of shocks. I've heard a good amount of stories of grandparents saying they would never "vote for that schvartser!" (I won't name names. That is the word, right? Schvartser?)

I'm just frustrated with all of this. Jews: open your eyes. Hilary is probably going to lose against Obama, and then what? McCain? He's old. and fat. And ultimately he's a bushie. We don't need that again. If you voted for Bush once or twice, it's okay - god forgave you on Yom Kippurs past... Just learn from your mistakes and vote Democrat this time.

That was harsh. My bad. You catch my drift, American Jews? You feel me here?

What this blog is for?

I'm not sure why I'm back to this again. For years I kept a blog. It was more than a hobby for me, it was a way of life. You can find my entire high school experience, basically uncensored, here. It's the silliest to look back on, but every angst filled teen needs an outlet, right? I chose, as the geek I am and was, to record details of mundane high school life in order to stay sane. Others choose drugs. Whatever works!

But nowadays things are different. I'm less whiny and life is a breeze. I just ended my first year at Eugene Lang with good grades and cool shades, and with my new apartment, I've got it made. (Did I mention I rhyme now? I guess I really still am a geek.)

Instead of whining about my life, I plan on talking about other things. Politics and shmolitics. Travels. Feminism. Sexuality politics. Jewish stuff. No deep dark secrets, no teen angst. Just a little bit of something, an outlet for my thoughts and creativity that I've pent up within the constraints of essay writing and heavy literature assigned by my great liberal arts college. Oh yes, I will also review some books I have been reading.

What to look forward to: A review of Ariel Levy's book Female Chauvinist Pigs and my internet excursion with Max, Misho, and Ariel looking at porn, discussing if my professor Thad was correct with the equation he wrote on the board...

Man Fucks Woman
Subject Verb Object

Are women objectified in porn? Is the glorification of Playboy the demise of feminism, or is Playboy's emblem activism? That and more... later.
